SHOP has TWO, two-week residencies available for Artists in Residence. Two weeks of 14 consecutive days is the preferred duration of the residencies within SHOP, however, this may be flexible for the right project.
SHOP has confirmed that artists’ Kate Lynch and bITjAM will be in residency.
Kate Lynch’s work attempts to reinterpret ‘The Green Man’ as a symbol representing the regeneration of Stoke-on-Trent by highlighting public artwork, which effectively already exists.
bITjAM experiment with everything digital. Their aims are to provide accessibility to the digital arts for everyone, collaboratively responding to the effects of regeneration. Using local sound recordings and video they attempt to create digital mash ups and installations.
As an artist in residence you will be willing to run workshops for the public and other artists. You will make work which is site specific to Stoke town, considering the location and people within it. You will also commit to contributing to the SHOP blog and the evaluation of your residency in line with SHOP policy.
Please take into consideration that for one of the residencies it may be possible for artists work to take place in both SHOP and the community centre/garden on London road.
The first of the two available slots will be from the 6th September – 20th September, 2010.
The second of the available slots will be from the 25th September – 9th October, 2010.
Residence Fee: £500.
To submit a proposal, send your CV, any images or links to examples of your work and a short proposal outlining the following:
• The area of your practice you will be exploring during the residency
• How you will work with the local context and community
• Why SHOP and Stoke Town for this proposal
The deadline for residency proposals is 23rd August, 2010.
Hi,
I am an Artist. I would love to contribute to this vibrant project. Ever since I lived in Stoke I have wanted to develop a project about language and the intriguing and often beguiling colloquialisms and phonetics of the potteries accent. I would like to send a proposal and application to participate in the residency program. Are there any more artist in residence slots up and coming? – I would love to hear about any opportunities you may have. Please add me to your mailing list.
Regards
Susannah
